About ECHRT

ECHRTThe European Centre for Human Rights Training aims to support legal professionals – judges, public prosecutors and lawyers- by providing training, online materials and E-learning activities. The Centre also aims to support legal professionals in exchanging expertise and experience. A strong human rights community facilitates the application of human rights in legal practice. The Centre provides a platform for discussion and support for its participants and visitors.

The Centre is founded by Hermine Masmeyer.
Hermine Masmeyer started as a laywer in 1993 and became partner in a law firm in 1995. In 2001 she became member of the management staff of the section for immigration and refugee law, in the Regional Court of Zwolle in the Netherlands. Since 2002 she is a trainer for the Dutch judicial Training Centre, in the field of human rights and immigration and refugee law.

Council of Europe
In 2005 she moved to Strasbourg, first to assist in the European Court of Human Rights in dealing with Dutch complaints (especially those related to immigration issues). Subsequently she became the manager of the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals of the Council of Europe. She was responsible for developing a network in the 47 member states, focussing on exchanging knowledge and expertise in the field of human rights and on training methods for legal professionals.

After her return to the Netherlands in 2009 Hermine Masmeyer founded European Centre for Human Rights Training.
She advices on strategic issues related to human rights awareness and implementation of international law into national law practice.
She is often invited as an expert on human rights issues in seminars and workshops for lawyers, judges and international institutes, for example European Judicial Training Network, ERA (the Academy for European Law), and the Council of Europe. She has a profound knowledge and experience in the field of developing training methods for legal professionals and professional organisations and in the field of creating networks or communities for exchanging knowledge. She is Honorary Judge in the Regional Courts of Amsterdam and Zwolle.

Other activities
Hermine Masmeyer is also business transformation consultant and executive coach in the field of integer leadership, transformation of organisations to integer and high quality and high trust organisations.
